If you are quickly stopping to get gas on your way to work or a gas station is the only food option on a long road trip, a gas station convenience store might be your only option for food. We all know that there is a plethora of chips, candy bars and soda available at the gas station, but it may be a bit more difficult to find more healthy options. Check out the article below for our top tips on how to find healthy snacks at the gas station.
Firstly, if available, our top tip is to go with something fresh and all natural. More often than not, gas station convenience stores will have a variety of fresh fruit including bananas, apples and more. This is a great option for a healthy snack.
Our second tip is to opt for packaged nuts. Packaged nuts are a protein packed snack that can be found at almost any gas station. While trail mixes and granola bars are better options than chips or candy, they can still have a lot of added sugar and empty calories. If available, plain packaged nuts are the healthiest option.
Lastly, do not drink your calories. It may be tempting to get a soft drink or energy drink, but these are typically loaded with sugar or artificial sweeteners. The best option, and usually the cheapest, is simply water. We recommend always traveling with a refillable water bottle, but if you do not have a reusable bottle on hand, bottled water from the gas station is a great option. If you are looking for a little pick-me-up, black gas station coffee is a much healthier caffeinated option than soda.
